Security assessment of wearable devices with medical functionalities (SiWamed)

The German BSI's SiWaMed project assessed the cybersecurity of wearable health devices on the market.

The study examined ten wearables—smartwatches, fitness trackers, and a smart ring—revealing 110 medium- or high-risk vulnerabilities, with no device being flaw-free. These weaknesses could enable personalized cybercrime, affecting patient recovery or exposing sensitive health data.
The project aims to identify IT vulnerabilities, improve security measures, and raise awareness among users, the public, and manufacturers.
